device-type

Description

Changes the Linux network device type so utilities such as tcpdump can properly parse the L2 protocol headers. This command is useful with tap setups where the interface's encapsulation is set to raw so all packets can be logged.

Parameters

cisco | ppp | raw | ethernet | frame-relay | atm | slip | cslip | x25
hdlc - Sets the device type to Cisco HDLC
cisco - Sets the device type to Cisco HDLC
ppp - Sets the device type to PPP
raw - Sets the device type to raw (no L2 decoding)
ethernet - Sets the device type to Ethernet
frame-relay - Sets the device type to frame relay
atm - Sets the device type to ATM
slip - Sets the device type to SLIP
cslip - Sets the device type to compressed SLIP
x25 - Sets the device type to X.25

Example

device-type ppp - Sets the device type to PPP for the selected interface.
